Art & Ale Wrap-Up

Since our inception, one of our goals here at The C.O.T. has been to facilitate events that help up and coming local artists and bands get their names out there, in venues that foster connections and collaborations throughout the community. This last Saturday marked the first - of hopefully many – of these events.

The beer flowed as per usual at Payette Brewing Co. on Saturday night as throngs of people circulated throughout a vast garage bay – typically reserved for cornhole and foosball – now transformed into a makeshift gallery. The current of friends, art-lovers, and beer drinkers pooled and eddied in corners and around tables to view original artwork by three of Boise’s most talented young visual artists, Tony Caprai, Emily Konkol, and Tori Servatius. The soundtrack - supplied by musicians Jac Sound, Nando Flores, Ryan Emry, and Sun Blood Stories - kept thirsty revelers in the party mood throughout the evening. In addition to tipsy times being had by all, over $150 was raised for TRICA (TReasure valley Institute for Childrens Arts).

Thanks to all the artists (visual and sonic), The Payette Brewing Co., and everyone else who came out to support art and culture here in the City Of Trees. We hope to do it again real soon.

Video: 2 from Finn Riggins

Here's a pair of new videos featuring Finn Riggins.  The first vid comes all the way from Chi-town where FR's song "Blackrock" is used in an add for "Da Bulls!"  Yes that's the NBA's Chicago Bulls who you may or may not have heard of.  The second video comes courtesy of Louie Bash of Boise band Shades.  The video was filmed by Bash on a recent mini-tour in which Shades joined Finn Riggins.  The song is "Benchwarmers," and from what we gather, the performance took place in a barn in Le Grande, OR.  Along with each video, we've attached the full version of the song just in case you were left wanting more.  Finn Riggins will be playing at The Manor in Caldwell w/ Art Fad and First Borns 2/27.

Tracks of the Week

Every Sunday of every week The C.O.T. will be posting a pair of local tracks that we think you need to hear.  They may be new, they may be older, but either way they are going to be awesome!  We figured at this point we should probably post a track from Boise's golden boy Trevor Powers (Youth Lagoon).  We chose "Bobby," which is actually a bonus track off of YL's debut album "The Year of Hibernation."  It is, in our humble opinion, the better of the two bonus tracks and a possible preview of what's to come from Powers.  The second track is a demo track from Sun Blood Stories.  As the title suggests, it's a sappy love song, which must make us suckers for sappy love songs because we love it.  Enjoy and have a good week.

Art & Ale: Preview

With Saturday's Art & Ale at Payette Brewing Co. approaching fast, we wanted to give you a preview of what to expect from the event.  Along with artists Emily Konkol, Tony Caprai, and Tony Servatius, live music will be going on all night.  Music includes Jac Sound and two new bands consisting of former members of the bands "Clyde," and "Sunshine and the Valley."  So new in fact, they have yet to commit to any concrete names, but just be assured that they are all crazy talented.  In addition, we, The C.O.T. will be selling our original merchandise, inspired by The City of Trees at 25% off.  We also recently launched our online store, where you can purchase or view items to be sold at the Art & Ale event.  Food will be provided by Big Daddy BBQ and of course Boise's best craft beer will be on tap from Payette Brewing Co.  The event is 21 and up, but no cover. Below we have posted some images from the artists and links to where to go to see more.  We hope to see you down at the Brewery from 4 to 10 PM.  It's going to be a ton of fun and a great way to spend your Saturday supporting local art, music, and culture.

This guitar, designed by Emily Konkol, will be auctioned off with all of the money going to The Treasure Valley Institute for Children's Arts (TRICA)
Guitar has been donated by musician Ryan Emry, who will be playing with the guitar at the event

Artsy Fartsy Tuesdays: Julia Green

So far The C.O.T. has been focused pretty heavily on music.  Since we claim to promote "art, music, and culture in The City of Trees," we figured we should probably step up our game in the art department, hence the newest addition to our site...Artsy Fartsy Tuesdays!  (Almost) Every Tuesday we will be sharing a new artist or something that has to do with art in our beloved city.
(if you are a artist in the Boise area and would like to share your art get at us at thecotboise@gmail.com)
This week we are excited to share the art of:
"Illustrator, lover of beards, furry animals, and all things cute"
"Chief Foxy"

Tracks of the Week

Every Sunday of every week The C.O.T. will be posting a pair of local tracks that we think you need to hear.  They may be new, they may be older, but either way they are going to be awesome!  This week we have one of our favorite jams by local emcee Arthur Maddox off of his 2011 release "White Rap."  The track is also featuring MCMD of the Dedicated Servers.  The second track is from the new project by David Wood of the Band TEENS called Old Earz.  This stuff is probably a little bit more accessible to most listeners than TEENS and equally as awesome.  Enjoy!
