Our favorite tattoo ever

Now, forever located on the ankle of Veronica Cast, is our Idahome logo.  The ink was done by Brad Saw at Lucky Pup Tattoo in Merville.  Described as "most painful tattoo ever," but "totally worth it."  Selling someone a t-shirt with one of our designs on it is cool.  However it's an extremely cool feeling to know that someone likes your design enough to get it tattooed on their body.

Aan and Aan. Aan and Aan. Aan and Incan Abraham.

I am praying someone reading this got the Stephen Bishop reference. Yacht rock fans out there? So tomorrow night our homies at Duck Club are bringing out Incan Abraham and Aan to the Red Room. What you may not know about Aan is that although they are based in Portland, some musical roots began up in Moscow, ID while lead singer Bud Wilson was attending the University of Idaho. So if you're a Vandal, you are mandated to come out Friday. For all others, just listen to the song below to cement your plans.

The 7" of that tune will be released on February 5th on Cool Summer Records along with the premiere of a video so keep that ish bookmarked! The headliners, Incan Abraham, are supporting their 'Springhouse' 10" record and are visiting Boise for the first time. Local band The ONEIRICS (members of ATTN and In the Shadow of the Mountain) will be opening. 8PM. Oh, the Red Room serves beer, so duh.

Treefort - Built to Spill Showcase and Band Announcement 3

You put Doug Martsch and the Built to Spill gang in charge of anything 'round here and there's a couple of guarantees. 1) There will be basketball involved. 2) The surrounding area literally becomes 'The City of TREES'. And 3) Rock of the highest caliber will be brought down upon us. So we are proud to announce that Doug Martsch and Built to Spill will be curating a three night Treefort showcase at the El Korah Shrine. Yeah, the El Korah Shrine. Three straight nights of BTS. Now for the deets.

Open Mic 1/28 - The Crux - 7:30PM

Listen up ya'll. We know there's a cornucopia of talent out there in the streets of the Treasure Valley. Well, if you want a small slice of time to share your skills, tonight's the night at The Crux. Show up at 7:30 to sign up and keep your set under 15 minutes. If you just wanna chill with some Stumptown coffee or a beer and listen, you're stoked too. For all the details please click here

And just because we don't like posting without a visual, here's a video taken by Mark Pemble of Colleen Green ruling it at The Crux this past summer. Take notes kids.

Thanks to Shelby Hergenreder you are all treated to some shots from last Friday's show at The Crux. Props to all the bands for ripping Boise a new one (figuratively I think?). Take the week to recover cuz this upcoming weekend has a slew of ripperz to check out.

Battle of the Bad-Ass Show Posters

You got a lot of choices this weekend. Obviously EVERYONE will at least stop by The Shredder tonight for the Bugman Brokeback Benefit and throw down a couple bones to help out Jason. Pinback show afterwards?

Now for Saturday. Here's what I say we do. Tell Camp over at Red Room to hold off on starting their set until The Rich Hands are done at The Crux. THEN those who are 21 and older can skeedaddle over to the Red Room to start tying one on. Everyone's happy! So right now I want you to decide on your favorite of the two show posters. We will psychically know who you picked and will notify the winning artist as soon as the votes are tallied.

Get to know Lakefriend and Little Miss and the No Names

Got some new videos from Ellen Rumel taken last week 'round the Treasure Valley. The first video is an instrumental track from Lakefriend (Caldwell) taken at the Red Room.

The second video is from Little Miss and the No Names (Boise). Does anyone else think they sound like Death Wish Kids?

The Algerian - Idaho's 'zine of the year?

James McLeod and Jon Metz are bringing back what was once a staple in the skateboard/punk/art community: the 'zine. These guys want to get The Algerian into as many people's hands as possible and at a buck a copy EVERYONE should have one of these effers. The Algerian is a documentation of the Boise skateboarding/band/comedy scene as well as other random punk shenanigans. In it you'll find shout outs and articles on current rippers, old crusties, and some rad photos and banter on whatever's clever in our local scene.

Inspired heavily by old Big Brother mags and Shaggy's 'Handjob' 'zine, The Algerian is hoping to revive 'zines in Boise and get others to make their own. We just picked up issues #5 and #6 and almost felt like we ripped them off by only paying a buck. The cover photo ALONE on #6 is worth it's weight in gold. So turn off the computer, pick up The Algerian and then get caught by James or Jon doing something stupid so you can be in issue #7.

Help a brotha out - Bug/Jason Burke's "brokeback" fundraiser

The fine folks at The Shredder and The Algerian tipped us off about a dude who needs a helping hand. Jason Burke, aka Bug, broke his back sledding Simplot hill with his daughter. Jason doesn't have insurance and you know that bills can get wild. In the spirit of MLK let's give back to the folks who have helped make this scene dope.

The Shredder is having a benefit event this Friday, January 25th. All the info is here. Dude, they're gonna have a d(r)unk tank! If you can't roll The Shredder you can straight up donate online right here. Help Bug out!!!

Art Show TONIGHT at The Crux - Jenny Bowler and Catherine Leewaye - FREE!

Listen ya'll. We know there are quite a few things crackin tonight including The Treefort 2013 Launch Party at the Riverside Hotel. And yes, you need to go to this if only to see SHADES rule it and later visit some of the "pop-up speakeasies" going down all over the hotel. I'm guessing music starts at 9 given the 8pm doors.

But we digress. BEFORE you roll the Riverside you need to take it upon yourself to swing by The Crux, grab a drink, and check out the art of Jenny Bowler and Catherine Leewaye. First off, it's FREE. Right there you should be saying, "Done. I'm going." Need more reasons? The art. Jenny Bowler will be showcasing photography from her 'Never Never Land' shoot. To date Jenny has taken some incredible shots of our local music scene (photo below from the Neurolux) and I'm sure this newest work (see second photo!) will be just as rad. So get on down to The Crux. Show starts at 8PM.

Gayze and Tyler T Williams Video Premiere

So the Gayze record release wasn't enough for you last week? Well then, here's a treat. Remember those sick Youth Lagoon videos? Yeah, those were the creations of Tyler T Williams and now he's teamed up with Gayze for something equally as rad. Gayze took two songs and made it into one music video. That's called a "double down". Okay, no it's not but it's pretty sick nonetheless. Check this ish.

Grandma Kelsey - The Dapper Yeti Tour - Sunday at The Crux

Obviously you're gonna have a good time this weekend. You rule like that. But when Sunday night rolls around it's not time to feel sorry about how the work or school week is about to start. It's time to go to a show.

Boise's own Grandma Kelsey reminds us of all the rad stuff coming out of Anacortes, WA over the years. Quirky, folky, and rad. Imagine yourself with a warm cup of coffee at The Crux listening to this goodness. $3 cover. 7PM start. Chris Jennings and Gregory Rawlins will open. The bonus? You'll be home by bedtime.
