War Hoarse - A Halloween Treat For Your Ears

Just in time for All Hallow's Eve, Mark Beaver (one of the original founders of this very website) has released a demo, concept album full of spooky scary tunes under the moniker "War Hoarse"
The inspiration and many of the samples of the album come from "kitschy, once-a-year Halloween jams of 50's and 60's surf and garage rock bands," accompanied by Beaver's "hoarse" growling vocals

So tonight while you await a pack of candy-craving pre-teens to come to your door.  Throw on War Hoarse to set the Halloween mood.

Listen: Magic Sword - Debut Album

The mysterious Magic Sword, whose live show has been making a splash around town, has just posted it's debut album on apesontape.com via Soundcloud.  Sounds like a physical album is due out next week that will include a comic book.  Magic Sword's live show has quickly become a must see and you can check out them out at the El Korah Shrine on October 18th for the release show.  Artwork for the comic book was provided by local illustrator Shay Plummer.

All is not quiet on "The" Josh Gross front

The multitalented and always busy Josh Gross has a whole lot of good stuff on the way for us.  With the completion of his novel "The Hack," (available 7/25) he has been focusing his attention on his latest musical endeavor, Iconoplasty.  Instead of explaining Iconoplasty and his upcoming debut album to you, we'll just let you watch the video below and you can hear it straight from the horse's mouth (Josh isn't really a horse).
Watch the video trailer for The Hack:

Honey Bones: Oh how we love side projects

Preview: Art & Ale Returns!

We are very excited to present another installment of "Art & Ale" down at Payette Brewing Co. Saturday, June 8.

The C.O.T. shop will be open at the event.  We've got some rad new items for the summer including some new designs of the bro-tank persuasion.  At the event, get a FREE "Skyline" die-cut sticker (see below) for every $20 you spend at our shop.  Visit our shop to see all that is available.

We are super stoked to see local indie-folk band Hollow-Wood live for the first time.  They played at Treefort and you may recognize their lead singer as one of the crazy dancers from the Dan Deacon Show.  Below you can check out a really cool in-studio performance video.

"Dunes" is the moniker used by Bryan Konkol (Cousin to Ben & Emily), a former member of Applehorse.  We haven't heard, anything yet but we assume every member of the Konkol fam has mad artistic skills.

Local fashion brand "VAUX Lifestyles" will also be at the event with all sorts of goodies.  Check out VAUX on Facebook

The Parley from VAUX Lifestyles on Vimeo.

Of course, Payette Brewing Co will be serving the finest craft beer in Idaho and if you haven't been down to the brewery in awhile you'll notice some changes.

Finally, as far as the art goes, we'll leave that up to you to come down and see.  Brewery/Art gallery...not a bad combo.

Record Store Day + Food Truck Rally - Saturday 4/20

Record Store Day is fast approaching.  Since there is obviously nothing else going on on April 20th, you have no excuse not to head down to our city's very own wonderful record store, The Record Exchange.  Of course, there will be all sorts of record store day exclusives, but it's also a great time for you to repent for all of the music you've downloaded in the last five years.
Did we mention that the first proper FOOD TRUCK RALLY of the year will be going down across from the RX from 4-8pm as well?  The best food trucks in town will be slinging grub straight from the truck.  As per usual, The C.O.T. will be selling original merchandise inspired by the City of Trees.  Check out our online shop to see what will be available.  A special surprise for all you dudes who hate sleeves.  Hope to see you out there.

Red Hands Black Feet

We've been meaning to share local "intrumental post-rock" band Red Hands Black Feet's recently released album "These Things Are Important," for awhile now and are finally getting around to it.  RHBF describe the album as one that
"represents the first two and a half years or so of the four of us figuring out how to write together and developing our sound.  It was a process not without growing pains.  We wanted to embrace the dramatic rise and fall of standard post-rock while avoiding a lot of the droning and directionless wankering that can take over a lot of instrumental rock music and alienate many uninitiated listeners, but we also didn't want to make an album that asked nothing of the listener.  In other words, we wanted to make an album that requires some effort to appreciate but that makes the listener want to put forth that effort."

(Video) Treefort, 20 seconds at a time

Thank you very much to local music aficionado, Matt Boam, for sharing his Treefort Music Fest highlight video.  It loosely follows the format of 20 second schnippets from every show he attended.  Not bad for a father of two.  Rad Stuff!

Our Treefort Top 25 (Pics)

Matt Dalley and the Treefort brass were kind enough to provide us with a photo pass.  We are very thankful because it allowed us to see the festival from an angle many didn't have.  Treefort round 2 was incredible and we were able to get around to quite a few shows, often wanting to put the camera down and enjoy the music.  Here's 25 of our favorite pics that we took, in no particular order.  You can read our thoughts and comments on the festival in the captions.
Get it Sharon!
Delicate Steve playing a secret show.  His 20th time in Boise in the last year or so.  This is my favorite band right now so I feel lucky to have seen them so many times.  I know all the lyrics;)
"Big Ups" to Finn Riggins for all they do for the Boise Music Scene.  Kickin' things off at the El Korah.  They were like the only band with visual effects at that stage which I thought was weird.
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings
Claire L. Evans of  Y△CHT.  This picture needs no comment
This was the only usable photo from the Japanther/Thermals period at the Linen Building.  Shit got cray cray.
YACHT, YACHT, YACHT, YACHT, YACHT, YACHT! (in Lil John voice of course)
Joke stolen from Dave Miller of Psychic Rites
Not sure I've ever seen a bandmember chugging chianti straight from the bottle on stage.  Touche Walkmen.
Treefort Monster gettin' jiggy wit' it at The Walkmen
Lead singer of The Walkmen watchout!  The Treefort monster is about to come grind on you!
A shot from atop the mainstage Treefort.  We were soon kicked out of the fort so the monster could come hang out.  I gave it a hug on the way down.
Love this Treefort Monster
I didn't think this would happen, but we were able to make it to all three Built to Spill sets.  Thanks BTS for your role in making Treefort so rad and for being the coolest band ever
Brainstorm gettin' after it.  Getting down in that photo pit was so cool.
French Horn Rebellion was a show we really wanted to see and they surpassed all expectations.  Where can I get one of these jackets.
Community Closet from Livingston Montana was a huge hit at Bricofort.  Band members got one free item and had to sign this lusty lady.  I was amazed at how much time and thought they put into the items they selected.
Jake Warnock of Atomic Mama and now Youth Lagoon
Beautiful "clear skinned mountain people"
Youth Lagoon.  We were gonna see if Trevor would rock a C.O.T. shirt on stage, but it seems he had other wardrobe plans
It's a ssssnake
Let the "going ape shit" commence @Dan Deacon
Ol' Doug.  This photo may have been taken by Shaun Shannon on my camera but he probably doesn't remember
Dan Deacon does more than just organize mass dance parties.  He also makes great music.  Did you know he created that "Drinking out of cups" youtube video with the Gecko?  I was disappointed that the DD app didn't work and sucked all the juice out of my iphone
Brother Ali closin' things down, at least for us.
We took this same pic last year.  You think they would fix this after an entire year (or maybe they are cool and don't give a rats ass)

Our Treefort Videos

This is a collection of videos we took at Treefort Music Fest.

The Dan Deacon video is a combo of two videos where Dan got the crowd to dance and go nuts.  This is a must see.
The Official Treefort Dance, organized by
Trey McIntyre Project

Random Dance Solo by Trey McIntyre Project
French Horn Rebellion put on an amazing show.  The video doesn't really do it justice, but it gives you a good idea of what went down

Let Art Mad ease your Treefort Hangover

"Trying To Be Nice," the latest from Arthur Maddox came out last week, but we didn't want it to get lost in the madness of Treefort.  Enjoy!
